Practical Ways to Help
NOTE: the people in charge of salvage efforts at the WTC
have more than enough practical support and help right now. People have
come forward to help so generosity that they have an embarassment of riches.
They ask that people do NOT attempt to make personal donations and gifts
at this point in time, because the resources are not needed. I will leave
the donation details at the bottom of this page, but they do not currently
need your help.
Ditto for the Blood Bank and Red Cross. So many people
came forward to donate blood that they have more than enough for their
needs right now. Donating blood seems like a wonderful way to help in an
emergency, but people need it ALL the time... my personal suggestion would
be that if you wanted to donate blood now and haven't, wait till next month
and do it then. Blood is not just needed in a national emergency... you
can save a life 365 days a year by donating.
World Trade Centre Memorial Quilt
Our goal: An individual block for each person who lost his or her life
in this tragedy. After the quilt is assembled, we will make arrangements
to display it and donate it to the City of New York, and allow the family
members to add special sentiments and personalize each victim’s block.
We will not let these precious lives be forgotten. This quilt will stand
as a memory for generations to come.

dedicated to providing hand-crafted items to those people suffering a loss,
tragedy, or going through a rough time that need to be reminded of the
simple fact that people care.
If you are a crafty person, Heartmade Blessings is collecting crocheted
afghan rug squares and handmade pins to let people know that we care.

Believe it or not, they need your socks!
The rescue workers in New York are working in wet, messy, difficult conditions
with very little in the way of supplies. A lot of skilled people have come
from across the country to help, and they need our help. The night's rain
has taken down the dust, but it's turned it into mud, which is a problem
in it's own right. A group has offered to collect socks from people and
to deliver them to where they will be of use. Here is an extract from the
email, with the contact details for the Devon Group:
we can all do something - believe it or not it's collect and
donate socks - the rescue workers are in desperate need of dry white socks
to change into as they move through the muck and water near the collapsed
buildings.
At The Devon Group, we are hosting a sock drive and are asking people
to send socks to our offices - we'll take care of getting them to the rescue
workers (via the ferries that are near our offices that go from NJ to downtown
Manhattan). This is not a joke. If you want to participate
in this sock drive, please send your {clean} socks to: The Devon Group,
1129 Broad Street, Shrewsbury, NJ 07702, (732) 542-2000.
